Changes to DoT travel regulations in the US impacts UK firms
In 2013 the US Department of Transportation announced it would be introducing new regulations to ensure all travel providers operating within the US would be WCAG 2.0 compliant. The new regulations, which came into effect on 30 June, coincided with an accessibility and usability survey by Sigma: The usability and accessibility of the online travel booking experience. The survey looks at the top 10 UK travel providers.
For over 2 years RNIB and Dig Inclusion have been working closely with Virgin Atlantic to ensure its website is WCAG 2.0 compliant in readiness for the new regulations. As a result we are delighted by the results of survey in which Virgin Atlantic came second for accessibility and first for usability.
As well as auditing the website, providing onsite and remote consultancy and training, we at Dig Inclusion provided tailored guidelines for employees responsible for making changes to the website to help Virgin Atlantic maintain the level of accessibility it has worked so hard to create.
