Video is growing in popularity as a medium for businesses advertising online, however the Internet is quickly being filled with inaccessible videos with no transcripts, captions, subtitles or audio description. We can help you ensure your videos are accessible.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 apply to all digital content, including video. Making accessible videos need not expensive or difficult, but it can be time consuming.
Video accessibility not only plays a huge part in ensuring your video content can be enjoyed by people regardless of disability, but Facebook also reports that 85% of their videos are watched without the sound on. If you do not add captions and subtitles not only are you excluding those with disabilities, but also 85% who consume media without sound.
We can help with all aspects of video accessibility: transcription, captioning, subtitling, audio description and BSL interpretation.
How will this help?
If you are commissioning a video to be made, the production company should be able to add all of the elements you need for an accessible video. However, if you have video content that needs to have transcripts, captions, subtitles or audio description added, this can be a time-consuming task. For a typical video, one minute of video takes nine minutes production time for transcription and captioning.
What do you get?
This really depends on what you need. For example, not every video needs audio description. You may already have a script from when your video was produced, which is a great starting point for transcription and captioning. Whatever elements you need, we can produce the rest for you. A full project will involve:
- A transcript of the video, which includes both verbal and non-verbal sounds.
- Captions and subtitles added direct to your video file with timings. We can do this direct to YouTube if your video is hosted there.
- A SubRip text (.srt) file of the captions and subtitles, formatted for direct input to YouTube or Facebook video.
- A secondary video file with audio description added.
